Outrigger Paddlers

"ALOHA" Pass it on!

Hey Gang,

The Alcatraz Challenge is only about two weeks away!. We're already getting some great responses from crews from outside our assocation- New Zealand, American Samoa, Canada, Washington, Arizona, Ventura, and San Diego are all coming to test their mettle in the San Francisco Bay waters! Its shaping up to be a great day of racing!

This year in addition to the traditional long course and in deference to the World Sprints in Sacramento there will also be a short course (of about four miles) that will still allow paddlers to get up close and personal to the infamous island.

If you're coming from outside the association and will need to borrow a canoe, please let us know by July 21st, so we can assist with securing one for your crews. If you have extra paddlers ( or need paddlers to finish off a crew), please let us know as soon as possible. We already have a paddlers available list, that's growing! As we get enough paddlers we'll help form a crew! Let's not leave anyone who wants to enjoy this race on the beach.

Please let Lesley ( LH_Brown@comcast.net )know as soon as possible if you're planning on coming to this race and we'll do our best to get you in canoes and into crews. After the 21st, you're on your own!

See you out on the water!

Lesley

Hey Lesley
Thanks for the invite and for seating my two crew members, Kat and Raquel. I have two more ladies needing seats: Mari and Nancy. Both over 50, strong, skilled and fit. They can do either the short or long course.

And I have a guy. Perhaps two, I'm still trying to find out.

One of our steersman bailed, leaving with everyone to fend for themselves. Most already bought their airline tickets.

The surprises never end! I appreciate your understanding nature. I remember putting together the Washington Monumental. Great fun, but full of surprises.

And finally, because of the loss of our steersman, we will only need one boat for the coed race.

Our master's crew is holding firm. Thank Goodness.
best wishes and thanks for looking after us.,
Margaret

Good luck with the event this weekend. Wish I was there (even though I am popping up to North Queensland for the weekend so it is a nice alternative). Looking forward to the race summary blog.
